A commonly asked question by customers is how they can prolong the life of their dart board. Today I am going to provide a few suggestions on how to keep your dart board from wearing down easily and looking nice and neat.

There is nothing that can really be done to maintain the appearance of your dart board. All boards will eventually break and start to wear in appearance but there are a few tips that can be used to keep it up a little longer. Your board should never be exposed to extreme temperature changes such as being taken out into the hot sun. Putting your board into the humidity or moisture of the air will cause the sisal fibres to expand thus resulting in bubbles on your board. Your board can never be used again after it bubbles up and expands, the darts will fall out and it will break easily when hit. Although several people say you can spray the boards to keep them looking fresher, it is not good for them because spraying the board causes the same result as putting it outside. Any sort of precipitation on the board will significantly shorten the amount of time you may use it. Direct sunlight and very hot spot lights over your board will dry it out quickly and cause it to break easily.

The most common segment that wears out before any of the others is the 20 segment. There is a number ring attached to the outside of the board and it can be removed. This part is removable so that you can line the 20 on the next available segment and rotate the board. This is a great way to keep the 20 segment for easily getting worn down!

How often you play darts greatly effects how long your board lasts as well. The more often you play darts the more you will need to replace your dart board. You can expect your board to last on average 1-3 years if used in home only. Most bars or clubs change their boards once a season, which would be about every 10-12 months because they are used much more often.
